The Lions scored early and often and cruised to a 90-46 victory over visiting Baptist Christian in a first round Division 6 CIF playoff game on Wednesday night.
The Valley Christian Academy boys improved to 19-5 on the season. They play at Eastside Christian in Friday's second round. Eastside beat Trona 53-38 on Wednesday.
Malac Taylor led the Lions with 22 points and Jed Hedlund added 21.
The Lions led 48-23 at the half and added 42 more points in the final sixteen minutes.
VCA advanced to the CIF quarterfinals last season.
Also on Wednesday, the North County Christian boys lost 53-26 at 9th seeded Calvary Baptist. Nolan Cannon had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Crusaders. NCC ended the year 6-14.
The Coast Union boys advanced into the second round with a 50-38 upset win over Villanova Prep, the 15th seed in Division 5A. The Broncos improved to 17-10 for the season.
Juniors Quinten Raethke and Angel Avina led the Broncos with 20 points each. Avina poured in 5 three-point shots, while Raethke added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Coast plays on the road Friday.
Shandon dropped a 63-46 decision to Acaciawood Academy, the #14 seed in Division 6. Hector Rangel scored 27 points, and Jesus Reyes added 13 for the Outlaws, who finished the season 9-10 overall.
