Vegetation fire burning near Montana de Oro being held at 100 acres

A prescribed burn in the Coon Creek area of Montaña de Oro State Park that jumped its containment lines is now 30 percent contained.
According to CAL FIRE, the prescribed burn jumped containment lines because of heavy unpredicted offshore winds. The fire is being held at 100 acres.
CAL FIRE is working in Unified Command with the California State Parks on the firefighting effort.
The 430 acre prescribed fire was being conducted to improve wildlife habitat health, improve range for cattle and to reduce the impacts of a wildland fire by burning old overgrown vegetation. Prescribed Fire is an important part of land management.
"We plan extensively for vegetation management project burns. This project is part of a 20 year broad-scale land management project. This is the fourth in a series five currently in developments with more planned in the future, including in the area of the escaped fire." said Chief Robert Lewin, CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo Unit. "When weather conditions change, as they did last night, we activate our contingency plans and quickly adapt to the increase in fire activity by suppressing the fire."
Crews are expected to gain the upper hand by Tuesday night.
