The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has identified the man killed in a hit-and-run on Highway 101 Tuesday morning as Simon Chavez, 22, of Santa Barbara.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the hit-and-run happened just after 1 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the Castillo Street off-ramp in Santa Barbara.
Officers had received several calls of a man staggering on the highway and by the time they got there, he had been struck and killed, the CHP said.
Investigators are looking for the driver of a white Hyundai in connection with the hit-and-run. The car has damage to the front and side and is missing a mirror on the driver's side.
Anyone with information should contact the Santa Barbara CHP office at 967-1234.
