Volunteers needed Saturday to help beautify Santa Maria

Volunteers are need this Saturday morning to help beautify the city as part of "Serve Santa Maria Day."

Organizers are looking for help on projects at a dozen sites that have been identified by the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department staff.

Volunteers will do everything from raking bark chips and planting at local parks to painting at a senior center.

This is the 5th year the annual clean-up project has been organized by Rev. Carl Nielsen at Bethel Lutheran Church.

Volunteers and city employees will gather at 8:30 a.m. at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, 600 South McClelland Street in Santa Maria.

Lunch will be served to volunteers at the center at noon.
