Cameron Walker and Landon Brown led the Righetti High boys basketball to a thrilling 63-32 win to open Pac 7 League play at Paso Robles, while Molly Donovan led the Paso girls by the Warriors 43-40 on Wednesday night.
Walker led the Righetti boy with 35 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer and a clutch bucket to put Righetti ahead 61-59 late in the game. Brown, who drained 4 three-point baskets, drained two free throws in the final minute to give the Warriors a four point advantage. Brown finished with 14 points. Frankie Platero added 11 points for Righetti. Rudy Binkele hit a three pointers, but it was not enough for the Bearcats.
Paso Robles took an early 13-5 lead and led 20-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors, led by Walker, dominated the second quarter to take a 44-37 lead at halftime. The game was tied 50-50 after three quarter.
Once again, Josh Wilson-Murry led the Bearcats with 26 points. He was called for a technical foul with nearly 30 seconds to play though that allowed Brown to shoot and make the game-winning free throws. Wilson-Murry drained 6 three-pointers and dished out 6 assists. Matt Van Dyk added 10 points and Jaylon Davis added 12 for Paso Robles.
The Bearcats led 59-56 late in the game after Davis hit a basket, but Walker drained a three-pointer to tie it 59-59.
Paso Robles fell to 0-1 in league and 4-9 overall, while the Warriors improved to 5-8 overall and 1-0 in league.
The Paso Robles girls edged the Warriors 43-40. Molly Donovan led the Bearcats with 19 points. Paso Robles improved to 8-6 on the year and 1-0 in league. Righetti fell to 5-9 overall and 0-1 in Pac 7 games.
