Westmont College has taken on what's become the largest solar residential project in Santa Barbara County.
Workers from Santa Barbara-based Planet Solar Inc. are installing solar panels on the roofs of 40 Westmont faculty homes in the Las Barrancas neighborhood. The panels are expected to generate more than 157,000 kilowatt hours each year, which is enough power to satisfy the needs of the entire neighborhood.
The college says using the panels will eliminate more than 3,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the environment.
