Williams earns another All-American Award

Cal Poly senior slotback Deonte Williams has been named to the College Sporting News Fabulous Fifty FCS All-American Team. It's the fourth All-American honor for Williams who rushed for 1,506 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 2008 Pleasant Grove High School (Elk Grove, Calif.) graduate was a second-team honoree by Associated Press, Sports Network and Beyond College Sports.
The Fabulous Fifty squad is designed to be like a real team, capable of taking the field and competing in a game. It includes everything from quarterbacks, who can run or pass to long snappers and other special teams performers. The Fabulous Fifty also emphasizes players who have exhibited character and other team-oriented traits, not just lofty statistics, or talent.
Williams was the 11th Mustang in the last 11 years to play in a postseason all-star game. He played in the Casino del Sol College All-Star Game in Tucson, Arizona, on January 11. Williams was named Cal Poly's most valuable player at a team awards banquet on January 13.
Williams was a 1st Team All Big Sky selection after helping Cal Poly to a 9-3 record and share of the conference title with Eastern Washington and Montana State. The Mustangs earned their third FCS playoff berth, falling to Sam Houston State in the second round.
The last Cal Poly player to make the Fabulous Fifty was wide receiver Ramses Barden, who earned the award three times from 2006-08.
Including honorable mentions, a total of 61 players and three coaches were selected from 43 teams and 12 conferences. Eastern Washington led the way with five honorees. The Big Sky Conference led all FCS conference with 14 selections.
