Willkomm leads AG, Bruton and Parham lead Knights to road victories

Matt Willkomm scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Arroyo Grande boys basketball team to a 61-41 victory at Whittier on Friday night in a Division 2A first round game.

The 11th seeded Eagles outscored Whitter 19-3 in the second quarter to build a 35-17 halftime lead they never relinquished.

DeSean Scott added 13 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Brennan Rivera tallied 9 points and 4 rebounds. Andrew Midyett pulled down 8 rebounds to go with 4 blocks and 4 points.

Arroyo Grande improved to 19-9 on the year and hosts Redlands Valley East in next Tuesday's second round. Redlands beat Saugus 67-51 in the first round.

Case Bruton and Curry Parham scored 16 points apiece to lead the St. Joseph Knights to a 63-35 road win at Ontario Christian in a Division 4A second round game. The Knights improved to 20-7 and host Campbell Hall next Tuesday in the quarterfinals.

Keith Datu added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Knights.
