Righetti senior Luke Wilson and Paso Robles senior Kevan Garcia both advanced to the round of 16 at the National High School Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Wilson, a 2013 California state champion at 152 pounds pinned Joey Cable of North Carolina to advance to the round of 16 at that weight class.
Garcia needed two wins to get to the final 16 at 138 pounds. He beat Clay Alguire of North Carolina on points, 12-0. Garcia then pinned Lino Gomez of Texas in the second round.
Each wrestler would have to win three matches on Saturday to advance to Sunday's final.
This is the 24th year the National Wrestling Championships have been held. To qualify for the tournament you must be a State Champion or State Runner-up at some point throughout your high school wrestling career. However in New Jersey and New York top four place finishers qualify and in California, finishing in the top eight at state qualifies you.
