Winter wonderland coming to Atascadero

Snow-lovers mark your calendars and get the snow suits out. It's a gaurenteed White Christmas in Atascadero this year. At least for a few days.

Atascadero's 11th Annual Winter Wonderland is Friday, Dec. 7th from 5-9 p.m. It's a sure thing 50 tons of snow will fall in the streets downtown.

Winter Wonderland offers free admission to most of its venues including musical entertainment, the Elks Little Train and a visit with Santa Claus. The most popular free entertainment of all, of course, is the snow, which attracts children and adults of all ages. "We grind more than 50 tons of fresh snow from food-grade ice," said event manager Steve Martin. "The local Kiwanis Club creates the incredible snow-slide with just enough moguls to let the kids 'catch some air.' They also create the snow play-piles for the little ones. Everyone loves the snow!"

For a small fee visitors can also ride the ponies and bounce house rides in the Sunken Gardens. Because of the growing popularity of the event efforts will be made to shorten wait times this year. "It's great to have so many people attend our Winter Wonderland," said Martin, "but we don't want to detract from the fun because of long lines."
