Women attacked in downtown San Luis Obispo

"One woman was walking on the sidewalk near Marsh and Chorro Streets, and he just walked up to her and hit her in the face and took off running," said Lt. Bill Proll with the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Police called it an unusual series of events and asked for the public's help as they searched for a man suspected of assaulting three women in downtown San Luis Obispo Thursday.

No arrests have been made.

Police said they are looking for a white man who has a short beard and is between 45 and 55-years-old. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and a baseball cap.

Lt. Proll said the first of three incidents happened around 11:00 a.m.

According to Proll, a woman was punched in the face while she was walking on the sidewalk near Marsh and Chorro streets. A man also spit on a woman and her baby in front of Urbane Café, and spit on a different woman and her infant near Monterey and Osos Streets. Proll said a man was also seen yelling at people in front of the downtown San Luis Obispo post office.

"We are fairly positive that is it the same suspect, but we are not sure," said Lt. Proll, "This is disturbing because we can't find him, and we don't know what triggered this and this behavior could continue."

Police said the victims have minor injuries and no property was taken from any of them. According to witness statements, the man does not appear to be a transient.
