The Cal Poly women's basketball team may lose starting forward Brittany Woodard for the rest of the season due to a knee injury. The 6-0 senior went down in the first half in Saturday's game against Pacific.
Head coach Faith Mimnaugh said Woodard was set to undergo an MRI on Wednesday afternoon and the initial diagnosis was not promising.
It would be a significant loss for the Mustangs and another run of bad luck for Brittany. She missed several weeks with an injury her junior year at Cal Poly and tore her ACL as a freshman at the University of Nevada Reno.
This year, Brittany started every game for the Mustangs. She is the team's second-leading scorer at 10.6 points per game and ranks third with 5.6 rebounds per contest. She had played really well in the last month. She averaged almost 17 points, including a career-high 21 points against UC Davis, in the three games leading up to the Pacific game.
Mimnaugh says Caroline Reeves will start for Woodard in her absence.
"We can't really replace Brittany, she does so many different things for us. But I think as a committee maybe we can some different looks that optimize the strengths that we do have," said Mimnaugh.
The Mustangs are 3-1 in Big West play and tied for second place. Cal Poly hosts rival UCSB Saturday at 4pm. The Gauchos are 2-2 in Big West action.
