Wrestlers are planning their next maneuver off the mat in the international fight to keep the sport in the Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee's Executive Board recommended Tuesday that wrestling be cut from the 2020 Olympic Games.

Wrestling is known as the world's oldest competitive sport. In fact, it was part of the first modern Olympic Games. But the IOC justifies its decision based on criteria such as global participation and popularity.

The wrestling community is ready to take action. For some Central Coast wrestlers a dream has been crushed. Competing in the Olympics is the peak of their career, because they don't have the NFL or other professional leagues.

"One of my childhood dreams is to compete in the Olympics. It's almost insulting to your sport that they say badminton and shooting are more worthy in the Olympics than wrestling, which has a much richer history," said Max Schneider, who is on Cal Poly's wrestling team.

Max has been wrestling since he was a teenager. He competed in the Junior Olympics a few years ago.

He said wrestling was chosen for elimination over modern pentathlon, which is made up of five events: pistol shooting, fencing, a 200 meter freestyle swim, horse show jumping and a 3K cross country run.

Wrestling will be in the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympic Games, but many are still confused about why it would ever be eliminated from the 2020 Olympic Games.

Wrestling still has a shot, but now has to compete against seven other sports vying to be included in the games. The final decision will be made in September.
