Think of a great jazz trumpeter who's still at the top of his game, and you're likely to conjure one member of the most famous jazz family in America... and tonight, he's coming to San Luis Obispo with the premiere jazz orchestra in the U.S.
Wynton Marsalis, son of legendary pianist, Ellis, and brother of Tonight Show star, Branford,... is appearing tonight for an encore performance at the PAC, along with the "Jazz at the Lincoln Center Orchestra."
Wynton formed the group 25 years ago, with members of his septet and survivors of the Duke Ellington Orchestra--15 soloists, ensemble players and arrangers.
The repertoire includes a wide spectrum of jazz traditions from their New orleans roots, to be-bop and modern jazz, including tunes by John Coltrane, Duke ellington, Gerry Mulligan, Chick Corea, John Lewis and Dizzy Gillespie.
The "Jazz at Lincoln Center 25th Anniversary Tour" concert starts at 7:30 tonight at the Cohan Center.
