Zip-lining adventure expands in Santa Margarita

A couple of years ago, a new way of exploring northern San Luis Obispo County wine country came to town. Santa Margarita aventures paired with Ancient Peaks winery to offer zip line tours of the historic Santa Margarita ranch. Now, they've bumped it up a level, and you can take a ride when you get Out and About.

The tour hour zip-line tour of Santa Margarita ranch has grown. Instead of four lines stretching across the ranchlands, there are now five.

Khiyle Batin of Margarita Adventures says people love the new ride. "This is our Pinot Express. Flies right over out pinot noir section. It is our highest and fastest line right now." Khiyle says it's about 1750 feet long. And the newest ride just may be the best.

The Pinot Express takes about a minute to cross from one side to another, but that's a nice long ride when you're flying over vineyards. It starts out fast, and about half-way over segues to a cruising pace that gives you good opportunity to take in the view. "It has the most vertical drop of all the zip lines." says Karl Wittstrom, owner of Margarita Adventures.

Just because it's longer and faster, don't be intimidated. Zip-lining is unlike other adventure sports. The fear-factor usually only applies the first time you buckeled up and brave enough to take that first step. Rarely do you see any hesitation after that. Mostly what you hear is, "I wanna do it again!" And now, you can.

And judging by the adventurous spirit of those behind Margarita Adventures, don't be surprised if there is another addition in the new year. "My mind is always kind of running wild, and I have some other ideas...so we'll see what happens." says Karl.

Another reason to get out and about.
