Thanksgiving weather looks good, rain returns after but timing a question

High pressure, which has given us the 70s and 80s for a few days, lingers through Thanksgiving. The main reason we are warm during the day and cool at night are the morning offshore winds and dryness of the air. That ridge in the jet stream breaks down later on Friday and that opens the door for several areas of low pressure to impact the Central Coast bringing rain chances. While the confidence in rain is high the timing has low confidence at the moment since guidance models have wildly different views on the positioning of low pressure. At this point it appears that some rain is likely Sunday on the Central Coast, but not the strongest part of what could be a multi-day storm. This initial rain could bring as much as a half of an inch. The second part of the storm is the hardest to time, it could be as early as Monday but looks more likely to be later Monday if not Tuesday. Rain associated with this larger low-pressure center could linger into Wednesday. I'd say 1-2" potential exists with the second system however we have to look at this entire forecast with some flexibility until models start to align on a higher probability forecast. However it is important to issue some kind of outlook since many people will travel over this time frame, just please check back for updated forecasts as it is certain to change.

Dry this week but wet weather next week

Right now a strong ridge of high pressure is setting up and it'll produce morning offshore winds which will be gusty at times through mid-week. It will produce clear skies which will mean mild to warm afternoon conditions (especially at the coast) but also cool to cold overnight lows,... Read Story
